Default Need help-Anywhere decent to live on the Gulf Coast

Hey everyone, I'm new! I luckily stumbled upon this forum the other day ago. I'm moving with my mother who is older and she had wanted to move to Ft. Myers orignally. But then I told her about the majority of threads on here advising against ft. Myers.

She still wants to stay on the Gulf Coast side though. I know nothing about FL. Any nice/afforadable, etc places to live?

About me. I'm 25 and will be going back to college in Fall 09 to get my masters in Social Work. I need to live somewhere where there is a good college also that offers this a graduate program. I'm not saying ne1 has to go research colleges for me. But if anyone knows of anywhere on the GC that has a decent Univ. that would be great.

Or if you think the Gulf side is a bad idea all-around pleeeeaasee feel free to tell me. I don't want to be stuck in a town with criminals and old folks at 25. And even though my mom is a bit older, only 62, she is still very young at heart and loves diversity and cultural things. Thank you guys soo much!

I've lived on the gulf coast for 15 years. Started in Naples, then Punta Gorda, and now Venice. I was never attracted to FT Myers, although there are a number of very attractive areas.

I'd suggest looking at Sarasota and St Pete. - You could look at USF to see if it would meet your needs.
