This has been an interesting program by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram taking an inside look at the successful Aledo High football team. I have enjoyed following it. I have just one question. I'm not getting political, I promise. I just want to know why the coach orders the players to pray before games? I understand the team concept but this is a public school. If it's student led, no big deal. Do people just overlook it because they win? Are there kids who have ever exercised their right to not pray? Any stories out there? Just curious because Aledo seems to be growing rapidly, and I imagine many of those transplants might be from out of state. Thanks in advance!

Well, 1st, thanks for mentioning that series. I didn't even know about it but then, while I live in Aledo, I don't have kids.

So I did go through and watch it all last night. My impression is that the prayer is student led and that the coach wasn't "ordering" them to pray but telling them now was their time to do it. Now, maybe I'm wrong, but that is just what I inferred from the way it was cut.

Now, I do think they kind of tried to make Aledo seem like an even smaller town than it is. I mean, it is small, but growing all the time. And the coach was saying at one point how they don't have the strongest kids or the fastest kids or something like that, but given all the people moving into the Aledo ISD, and more coming, they certainly do have, and will continue to have, some really talented kids.

Anyway, I think overall, they've done a nice job with this little series. It was an interesting watch and I'll watch for the final episodes as the season ends over the next few weeks.

Odds are they'll win the whole thing on Friday. I don't see them losing to the team from Corpus. Prayer or no prayer, this is a great team.
