Are there as many trees in Southlake as there are in the Woodlands, which is a suburb just north of Houston.

no
google any MLS listing in Southlake and then do google maps satellite--
most subdivisions in Southlake have gone through clear cutting of any native trees and have the 2-per-lot generic landscaping...

there are some areas with native trees but usually older homes on larger lots
and this area of TX was not part of the eastern woodlands geography like Woodlands anyway
more scattered trees--prairie/grass lands--less rainfall than Houston area

Here is a handlful of homes in Southlake so you can have an idea of what they look like. Also, these are all within the price range you are considering.

Well there are new planted trees (on formerly treeless lots) and there are old growth trees. I have a big old elms and white oaks, mainly in Southlake. I also have cottonwoods and boise-d-arcs, neither of which you want. One tree guy told be you cannot plant native oaks because they will die after several years...I was sorry to hear that. Also there are pine trees in Southlake scattered about but they are not native just planted by owners long ago.

this is google satellite map of southlake--see what you think about TREES as part of the landscape
Southlake, TX, USA - Google Maps

and this is about the same height satellite for the Woodlands in Montgomery Co north of Houston
Google Maps

to me--the Woodlands wins hands down...which is why I said no...

you certainly CAN plant native oaks-we have one in our front yard that was planted over 20 years ago and our neighbors have oaks in their front yards
you just need to make sure your dirt works for them and you get the right genus of tree
some native oaks are very touchy and are not the kinds to do well in yards but a live oak is a great tree...as well as a burr oak

agree that you do not want cottonwoods although you can get the males which don't make the "fluff" and love to hear cottonwood leaves shifting in the breeze--they don't hold up well in big wind storms and take a lot of water so they really don't work around here

you don't need to re-post the same thread.

Try Westlake too, if you have the money.
