For some reason I really get the feeling and the impression that Fort Worth is getting ready to do something really big to downtown. Why? Fort Worth restored all their older buidlings. Fort Worth made its downtown very lively with resturants, bars, clubs, opera houses, etc. The Convention Center hotel is complete. So whats nexts to do build a couple 50 + story towers. XTO is going to build a massive building in downtown Fort Worth, but the only question is when. With all the royalties the city is getting from the Barnett Shale the money is definately their.

No, the 50 story building project died like 4 years ago....

Fort Worth IS going to do something big for downtown, but it wont have anything to do with new skyscrapers....

Looking at that picture I see three different sub divisions of building what is that all about? I know TRV was suppose to expand downtown, but I don't see the expansion of downtown. How long is this project suppose to take.

It has already begun. It started a couple years ago....
Right now, they're building the new TCC campus (which looks UGLY so far) and they've already knocked down the older, broken down buildings along the riverside and will begin diggin (if that hasn't happened already) sometime within the next 5 years. The water part of the project is suposed to be done by 2015.
With that, there's supposed to be allied projects along with it, which include the TCC development, a possible riverwalk/boardwalk, development around LaGrave Field, and more.

As for the buildngs...
Well, there are 4 different neighborhoods and those neighborhoods have height requirements (why, I don't know..) and those were examples of what could and couldn't be built there. The height requirement for certian parts of these neighborhoods is 96' tall, and no doubt, those spaces will be used for condos.

It is said that this will expand downtown... but REALLY, this is just a creation of a more vibrant Uptown. But it will complement downtown, as downtown will get projects in the future as well. There's just no word on what's gonna happen.

I understand that an architect's nature is to want to build -- but if we have the empty space of the old post office, I think city hall should do that. Of course, I haven't taken into consideration costs which usually weigh heavy. Generally, though, empty space becomes unkept and haven for crime, etc.

I love Fort Worth. It truly is a great city and downtown is awesome in terms of things to do, but I 've been saying for a long time that Fort Worth needs a signature tower (maybe two). The tower(s) wouldn't have to be extremely tall like the BOA building in Dallas, but just something to make people say "that's a pretty cool skyline".

Yeah...if they went the route of some 50 or 60+ story building(s) it/they would really stick out, and not necessarily in a good way. But a couple more 35-40 floor buildings (that have some design flair but don't look like godawful pinwheels with randomly-placed pillars) could really shape the skyline in a positive way. Either in some of the existing "gaps" between highrises or on the edges of downtown to frame the "sides" of the city and keep the appearance of a broad distance between existing buildings (this style seems unique to Ft Worth and has always given me the impression that downtown was further away from where I was standing than it really was).

On the other hand if there is no demand for more office/residential space, nobody's gonna build them, and rightly so. But eventually it will be too painful to keep building outward and having ridiculously long commute times.

Actually I disagree. If Fort Worth was to put a 50 story tower up its about location. The perfect location is towards the center of downtown. Now if you put a 50 story on the out skirts of downtown than yes that will look real tacky.

FW's skyline looks fine as it is, thank you very much! Downtown has a lot to offer. Dallas has the huge skyline for those who want it. Don't see a need for FW to mimic Dallas. Cowtown is unique... special. We oughta keep it that way.
