you can always dispute that you were, in fact, discharged and insist that the records get cleared up. Also call your prior employer's HR dept and tell them what happened. Ask a rep at the unemployment office how to straighten this out. That doesn't mean you will win your claim for benefits because if you were warned about your attendance or you were on a progressive discipline process about attendance, you'd probably get a decision that you were fired for cause and won't get benefits. But certainly worth a try.

If your employer had a no-fault attendance policy (where a doctor's note doesn't excuse any absence) and you were given all of the steps of progressive discipline leading up to your termination, you're probably screwed.
