I have a question.... Potomac Edison is our power company out here, and they've been advertising they offer a rebate on various HVAC equipment purchases as long as they meet certain energy efficiency standards.

Our circa 2012 Rhud electric heat pump just died on us a few weeks ago. (Well, it had a freon leak in the coil anyway, making it pretty useless -- and it turns out these 2012 era Rheem/Rhud heat pumps almost all have that issue. Problems, apparently, with copper and aluminum they bonded together when making their coils. Dissimilar metals corrode where they meet and you get leaks. More costly to repair than it's worth.)

So, I decided to take out a small loan and buy a whole new, slightly more energy efficient replacement system. Went with a mid-range Carrier "Performance series" heat pump that claims it's "16 SEER" (just enough to qualify for this rebate credit of $400 they have).

Problem is? When I filled out all the rebate paperwork, they demanded I go to the AHRI web site and look up/download the certificate of performance for the unit and submit it along with the other paperwork. When I pulled that certificate, it claims this unit is 15 SEER. Its very model number with Carrier has a 16 in it though and its own owners' manual claims it's a 16 SEER.

Will that mean they disqualify me from the rebate? Seems unfair if you buy based on the manufacturer's own rating.
