Growing up, Mom once told us of how in the 60's, she saved money by having part of our milk as day old purchase (or something like that) and the other portion coming from powdered. I grew up on skim.
Now as an adult, I use powdered entirely. I find that not only does it vastly undercut the price of liquid but also in a world that is not too crazy about skim, I can be sure always to have a supply of it provided I keep a box on the shelf.
But looking at one of my threads that got closed over the weekend, it seems that the a view of powdered milk is another hoarder warning sign. Huh?
Why even worry about it? We are not baby cows. We don't need milk past a certain age. There are many ways to get the same nutrients without drinking something that's really not all that good for humans. Food for thought (pun intended LOL)

Well, for one thing, I find that milk is GREAT in the dehydrated hang over.
I use powdered milk to make organic greek yogurt, and tootsie rolls hehe ( but only use organic don't want the hormones, pesticides or worse....)
Yeah, I want to know how too! I frequently use it in muffin recipes that ask for milk. Isn't it good to have on hand during an emergency? But you have to use it up eventually or it goes bad and you've wasted money.
I always have powdered milk on hand for cooking. I can't stand to drink the stuff! But it's fine for cooking. I use very little milk and it spoils too quickly. Stored properly the powdered stuff lasts almost indefinitely.
