I would love to be a minimalist, but most of the stuff I have is of sentimental value and I can't part with it. Most of it I don't even sit out, but it's stuff that was my mother's and I am still grieving.
Some it is quite large like artwork. Makes moving on a budget hard.

Would the person/event that inspired the sentimental value to you actually approve of now being a burden in your moving on a budget?

I decided to choose a few things to keep that would remind me of my mother, but I didn't know if I wanted to part with the rest of the stuff.
A friend gave me a couple of great suggestions. She said to ask yourself if it brings you joy or reminds you of a specific memory that you cherish. If so, then keep the item. If not, then consider taking a photo of the item, then donate or otherwise dispose of it. That way you have a photo to remind you of it, but it takes up no space and you don't have to lug it around when you move.

She would just be happy knowing me and the cats are okay :-) The cat carriers take up most of the car, leaving only trunk space. But there are those roof thingies that go on top of the car. Not sure how much you can fit in them?
Then there is the issue of 3 plastic bins full of old bills and receipts, tax stuff, etc. I am afraid to part with a single piece of paper, as I know the rest of the world is not as organized as we are on this thread!
We decided to go minimalist when we decided to downsize to an RV and travel for awhile. I've had a great time, selling stuff off we don't need or don't use, giving stuff away or just getting rid of junk. Next month we put the house up for sale and hopefully by Sept. we'll be on the road full time.
I sleep on the floor if I have a carpet, if no carpet I sleep on a foam or cotton pad. I found this meant that I would only meet a very special woman and that suited me just fine.
Kinda curious if you would buy at least an air bed if you met a woman who wasn't such an ascetic. Or who had back problems?
If you were a minimalist, you would have stopped at one pet if you had one at all--unless you had a very small pet which didn't take up much room.
Yeah, too bad my mother died. Some things we don't plan in this world.
