I ran into a friend of mine and noticed his hair was gone. His wife had shaved his once long thick hair completely off. He was not going bald like a number of men who shaved their head, nor was he a cop or military, but instead, he was just frugal with his money. He does not look that great with a shaved head, but I have to agree, it does save him money.
His plan was to have his wife shave his head every week and save $200 a year in haircuts! What do you think?

It works if he looks good with a shaved head or it makes his life more comfortable such as in he has a job where he sweats a lot and hair gets in the way. It doesn't work if the cut isn't a good look for him or a decent cut makes him look better. A bad haircut can mean the difference between having a job and not having one. It's possible to hurt yourself by being too frugal.

Smart...I would rather her buy a shaver that gives a clean buzz cut....but if he looks good bald, great.
I see no issue.
It will be one thing, than another ...and soon he will be saving $1000 a year.
I posted elsewhere that I started cutting my hair at home.
I was sick of being pressured by hair stylists to buy expensive hair products, while I sat in the chair when they cut my hair. They would go on and on about how great an expensive hair conditioner was ($50 for one bottle), and then set down the bottle in front of me, sometimes even adding it onto my bill without telling me, and I'd have to ask them to take it off. Then they'd go into a spiel about "but your hair is in terrible condition and you're using those drugstore products that are bad for your hair". Now they can all go to hell because I'm not giving them money anymore for even the haircut. I'm cutting it at home. I just got sick of listening to the same spiel from all of them.
I've been shaving my head since age 25 due to MPB. On the few occasions I've been asked why I shave my head, I've replied "Saves me money on haircuts!" as a joke.
It's true though.
I used Schick Hydro 5 refills, which I can usually find on sale for about $10 a pack of 4. One blade will last me 2 months or so shaving my head, and face. They stay nice and sharp, which is amazing since I can grow a thick beard in 5 hours.
So really I might spend $20/year on blades, and maybe that much in shaving cream?
A haircut for me was $15-20 every 3 weeks?
So $346/year....vs $40. So I save $300 a year by shaving my head. That's a couple nice hats I could buy.

Very true, my hubby was fed up of paying for hair cuts & having them ignore what he said he wanted. So we bought a hair trimmer for around $30 & he cuts it himself & it looks so much better, paid for itself within the first 2 months.

I don't know about the hair cut part, but the shampoo/conditioner DOES make a difference.
I would have never believed it. I used to call it "scampoo." But the difference is VERY noticeable.
I won't switch back.
I've been cutting my husband's hair every two weeks for the past sixteen years, which has saved us $4,000. Maybe more if the price of haircuts has gone up over the years.
I always cut it in a fade, 1/2 inch on top down to 1/8 inch at the bottom. He wants a cut that doesn't take any styling products or even a comb. Most of the time he wears a uniform to work and the haircut looks right with the uniform. When he has to wear a suit, the haircut doesn't go well with it but that's only a day or two a month
