I've done an internet search and have seen both spellings used ( crape and crepe )

I suspect in NJ they freeze to the ground and come back bushy every spring.

Some of the dwarf Crapemyrtles are hardy in NJ and SE PA. They have indian names if I recall, like Cherokee, Navajo, Zuni, etc.
