Too funny. How about if we just put you at below 32° for now?

Like the air temps, soil temps continue to break records.

Global warming has definitely been having an impact.

Even with the low air temperature today (25) and yesterday (28) my 5 day soil temperature average this morning is 51.2.
This is ten degrees higher than the 5 year average. I am not a believer of global warming.

Our soil did manage to thaw all the way through 1-2 weeks ago with the mild weather, but it's back to being frozen now. Compost pile is still 100F though.

Actually I assumed it would be frozen given there's 5" of snow/ice on top of it, but it seems not. I was able to stick my soil thermometer into the ground and record a temperature of 33F at 2" depth, and it's probably only warmer deeper down.

I guess what happened was that the snow came down really fast very soon after temperatures fell below freezing, so only the immediate surface was at <=32F and the thawed soil got insulated from the cold air by the layer of heavy snow and ice.

Although I shoveled the driveway, there was still some ice that formed afterwards, as well as a big of snow accumulation, and that has already melted, despite temperatures in the 15-25F range. I can only imagine that was due to the driveway/ground below it being above freezing since the sun hasn't really been out.

Up to 41F soil temp now as winter comes to an end and the snow has melted. Thinking of direct sowing lettuce and carrots soon.

Winter just finished up here but way too warm for late March. At this point. That good old global warming is having all sorts of negative effects.

My five day average is back up to 54.8. It bottomed out last week when the ambient temperatures got down to 16 degrees for two nights. My bermuda was put in shock when this happened. Any greening disappeared and there are no hints of the bermuda greening out yet again. But the tall fescue clumps are growing like weeds on the half of my 1/3 acre lot that it was planted on. I will need to mow this shortly.
