It takes a very large barrel to grow an indeterminate tomato, if that's what you are looking for. 15-20 gallons. Determinate varieties can grow OK in 5 gallons.

Either way the biggest hassle of container gardening is watering. You have to water by hand a lot, or implement some sort of drip irrigation.

A next question, please.
1. Where do I get seeds/plants of Better Boy, Girl, cherry tomatoes?
2. If seeds, when do I put them in to the soil? I live in IL.
3. If plants, when do I look for them?
