Are you settled in, Elle? I hope you put the BF to work

dlking, your lakefront place sounds lovely, why are you moving??????? Sick of winter, too?

Congrats, ItsRick, is it a nicer place you're going to?

Got all the church stuff boxed for the Salvation Army yesterday. It was so nice out I did it outside on the gate of my pickup. It was actually warm enough to wear flip flops!

This morning I drove my rig up to the barn to unload stall bedding bales and the danged brake pedal went to the floor. Last month we had all the steel lines replaced on DH's rig. 800 bucks OUCH

I have a bid on a brand new Haggar suit I bought DH years ago for jury duty after having it up on ebay five freaking times. At least it's one more ing out the door I won't have to move.
Yes, the winter is part of it. We just wanted to be near the ocean, instead of taking the 5-hour drive to the panhandle area several times a year. Where we live now is lovely, but I'm looking forward to year-round blooming flowers, and being 4 miles from the beach.

You're right about the boxes and the staging thing - the house is in "magazine layout" shape, so much that even my toaster can't be left out, so certainly not a bunch of moving boxes. Also, I don't want to give prospective buyers the idea that we're desperate and in a big hurry to sell.

Thought I'd join this little group if you don't mind. I'm two years from making a cross country move. I spent the last 3 weeks cleaning out the basement and today the "junk" man came and took away a bunch of stuff to donate, recycle and just plain toss. It took 3 guys working 1/2 hour to load everything. I still have about 10 boxes of papers, photos and stuff to get through before I can reclaim my 2nd bedroom. After that I will need to start on the closets. This is going to be a long process.

Well its 1 week to go. We have been almost fully packed since mid June. Our first Agreement of Sale fell through. Now we have a solid 2nd buyer. We are moving no matter to Wilmington, NC, from the frozen Pocono mountains in PA.(yipee)

FYI Almost 3 months and most of the items in the boxes I haven't needed. We really did get rid of soo much stuff, but still need so much. We didn't take our living room set and tables. Still costing $3600 for 1 bedroom, den, computer,TVs & dining room. All appliances are being left for new buyer.

We have to stay at an extended stay motel, because movers gave us a 15 day spread for delivery. We won't be moving for some time. We are renting, never to own again. This sale was the biggest "PITA" . The most incompetent agent I have ever encountered, and I worked as a secretary for a broker for years.

Needless to say "see ya'll later"

:ek: Elle, you're moving again? Yikes! I will stay tuned, it's not that far off.

DLking, panhandle of Florida?

Retire in MB, you're smart to start now. I've been selling off stuff for almost a year. I've made a dent, but if we had had to be there by this fall it would have meant letting a lot of things go for peanuts or a huge cost to move it all. Are you going to Myrtle Beach?

Snowlady, keep posting. This last winter was the straw that broke the back, eh? Me, too. Sounds like things are moving along for you. AFA a crappy agent, I could go on and on...maybe you need to get back into the RE biz.

Another unmotivated day, but I'm super busy at work so make hay while the sun shines......

Yes, once the year lease is up, we are going to move to a different area, and hopefully someplace just a wee bit bigger!

Shouldn't be too bad this time! Across town is nothing compared to my last move across the country

Yes, the Florida panhandle is only about 5 hours drive from our house. We usually vacationed at St. George Island. It is almost 100% single family homes, very quiet and not crowded. Shhhh...don't tell anyone!!!

Elle, looking forward to your new place. Your last move?

Aha dlking, I have an aunt in Pensacola (never been there) and some folks in town bailed to Fort Walton Beach last year, the lucky devils.

We were originally looking just outside Alachua county but Mom wanted us closer so Jupiter is our future home. I read a lot abut Mayberry, er, Niceville here on the boards.

If you have vacationed there then you must be pretty familiar with the area, no?

Well, I've probably vacationed in every city on the panhandle over the years, but I'm most familiar with St. George Island, because that's our favorite. We have gone there exclusively for about the past 15 years.

The winters are not very warm in that area...we actually saw sleet on the Island in February when everyone back home in Atlanta was going thru the big snow-jam. Also, depending on the part of the panhandle, it can actually be a long way from good shopping and health care. We could have bought a beachfront home on the island a few years back, but it is a pretty rural environment with a volunteer fire department and the closest hospital probably 100 miles away in Tallahassee.

Panhandle can be cold in the winter. We were there in February when one of those storms was hitting the northeast, bitterly cold from the wind coming off the Gulf.

But when we got down to Sarasota, it was warm. Good thing though, it does warm back up along the Gulf even after the cold snaps.

We are adapting to the lifestyle here. Shorts, swimsuits are the daily wear. Bought a kayak, put rack on the SUV. At least once a week we are at the beach.

We found a good local doctor. He is from West Virginia. Our pharmacist at Walmart actually knew him and grew up in the same town in WV. Interesting. Lots of doctors who will work with the older crowd. Lots of support groups (Parkinson's, etc). A nearby casino had a Parkinson's fundraiser last weekend.

So we are fitting in down here. I have met virtually everyone on my block in under 2 months, far quicker than I ever met people in Denton, TX.

Love it down here.
