We retired last year and it's taken us all this time to downsize and clean out this home we've been in for 34+ years. Of course during that time we also had to clear out and sell a relatives home in another state who passed away. That was not expected, nor fun.

We cleared our shed today, stuff for yard sale to the patio, stuff to move to the garage. Found super cheap yard sale signs and stickers at the dollar store. DS is coming tomorrow to definitely let us know what he wants. Need to do the same with DIL too. Also found someone who is thrilled to have my old piano. That's bitter sweet to see go. Had it for about 50 years, it's not in great shape but a new little one will be learning to play on it which is good to know.
My daughters have already been up and said what they want -- they just have to come up and take it home. Paid for the move; hired packers and cleaners and made arrangements with a local non profit to donate everything left that (other than what we toss). Hardest part was re-homing my horses and of course leaving my family that is here, but I'll fly back to see them and they will come visit us. We bought a home over two years ago on the lake and that's where we are going. I work from home so we were just waiting on his retirement.

We aren't moving alot of furniture. I've already bought beds and a few basics for the lake house since we have been going every summer. Why pay to move something unless it is sentimental value?

Argh!!! Yesterday the downstairs furnace started making a bad noise. I think I know that noise - it's a bad bearing. That means major work!

We're out of here in 10 days. I purchased a home warranty for the new owners. I'm torn between fixing it at my expense or waiting it out and letting them put in a warranty call.

Right now the unit is off and the temperature in here is 77.

WWYD?

How old is the furnace? Have you already closed? Are you sure the warranty will cover it? I would probably fix it, but, I need more info. to know for sure.

Old. It's original, twenty years.

Yes, the warranty would cover it.

We don't close for another ten days.

We went through this with the upstairs unit just a couple years ago. They ended up having to replace the whole thing at a cost of $3k.

UGH, this is a toughie. If it's original, twenty years old, as a BUYER I would realize going in that it could need replaced at any moment. Is the only way to fix it, to replace it? What did the inspection report state during inspection? Are you saying a $400 home warranty will replace a 20 year old unit?

The inspector recommended the warranty because of the old unit. And yes, it fully covers the ac.

I'm not sure the only way to fix it is replacing it but that's what we did a couple years ago on the recommendation of the tech. It was 18 years old and that made sense.

kab0, check with your realtor/agent/broker/attorney to see if you should repair it before closing.

I agree. Imo, it is the right thing to do.
