My 84 year old neighbor did this and just moved into another building. She called a reputable local moving company and they did a great job. And she had alot of big pieces to move too. I think they charged by the hour so it cost her a couple hundred dollars but it was worth it.

I know a lot of people that are over 60 and handle moving by themselves.

Age doesn't mean you can't do it. Now if the person over 60 is weak and fragile, that's another story, but I also know 20 year olds that are weak and fragile.

You might be able to post a hand made sign right in the complex offering to hire somebody to help you with the move.

Laura,
Yes. I did it.
Hire a moving company, they will do it if you pay them.
You can pay anyone to do anything for ya.
Enjoy your move.

Any moving company would do it but some have a minimum time. I have done small moves and often a moving company like 2 Men and Truck have a min of 3 hours and you pay for that regardless if it only took them an hour or 2. Another option though you have to be careful is to make a post on craiglist. I did that a few times when I just needed help with packing and lifting smaller items and it was inexpensive.

I moved from an upstairs apt to a downstairs apt in the same building, and I hired a local moving company to do it. They had a minimum charge of 3 or 4 hours, I think. They didn't need this much time. It was pricy, but c'est la vie.

I did just send them downstairs with bags of stuff, didn't worry about packing things really well. I even just took half the water out of the fish tank and had them haul the fish tank with the fish in it - half full - down the stairs, too.

You will only know if they will do it by calling them but I bet most will do it, it's still a move and the only difference is the time it would ormally take to drive from point a to point b...but they still might have a small drive.

I would pack the same way as if for a regular move as they could drop, bump something etc.

Don't use dark garbage bags - if you pack them use the clear ones...I know so many people who lost things packing in the green ones - a mover puts it down outside the truck, someone else thinks it's garbage and off it goes.

PS I have moved within a complex - it was down the hall - I still had movers to carry the heavy stuff.

Movers for Packing & Loading Help - HireAHelper.com

There are dozens of similar sites on the internet. If you are moving within the complex they shouldn't even need a truck/van - just some carts to pile boxes on and push them across the parking lot. They will even pack for you.
