From all the reviews i've read, Penske is the way to go. I understand that the prices change based on projected availabilty.... my question is:
The rates have gone up over 100.00 since I checked last week. The move is Memorial Day weekend. Do y'all think there's any chance the price will drop again or should I book before it goes back up?
Thanks
Definitely book now, but keep checking back periodically to see if the rates go down. If that happens, just rebook (making sure to cancel the current reservation).
Also be sure to check rates from the other major players (Budget, U-Haul) -- if you're quoted a lower price, let Penske know. Other folks here have said that they'll match the price.
I had booked a rental for early summer with Budget, but then decided (after reading all the rave reviews of Penske on here) to switch...Penske's online quote was $200 higher than Budget but when I called in they were able to match it. So, check all the other companies and use this as leverage when calling Penske. It didn't sound as though they automatically match other companies, instead must check with their supervisor but usually can. Some other, minor fees were lower with Penske (such as fee for additional driver), which is a nice plus too. Good luck!
when we went with Penske...we had booked with another first..then Penske matched their price and went better. Maybe call around see what the others will do for you, and then call Penske back and say so and so offered it for this....
We're using the AAA discount and coming in a bit over a grand with taxes. It was a little over 100.00 cheaper two days before :-) I'm checking all the other carriers, but they were cheaper in the first place. Guess i'll keep watching to see if it changes from the price I reserved at.
Penske is the way to go! I used them this weekend. They gave me a great truck, 2008 GMC, 40k miles.
This is in contrast to the U-Haul I rented a few years ago, where the 17-year old attendant hands me the keys to a 1991 Ford with over 200,000 miles... after he couldn't get the first truck to crank.
Penske is the best , we are going to use them to move back to florida again . I totally agree about u haul . One of my best friends that lives in florida now she just moved back from texas and they broke down on I-10 and had to wait for uhaul like 6 hrs to come get them and put them up for the night in order to get another truck and they had to haul all their stuff to another town and put it back on the other truck which made them a day late getting to florida . I would not trust u-haul around the corner . Nope IN my opinion Penske is the only way to go . good luck on your trip .
Anyone run into issues with returning a Penske truck to an unmanned return station? I've only rented a car once before and am concerned about running into added charges @ the return site, particularly if no one is there to review the condition of the truck with us. Also, has anyone run into issues with trucks being broken into while lodging en route to your move site? How secure are the truck locks? I'm planning to follow all common sense rules regarding this, but just curious how secure the trucks are.
