I don't see how that post is hating. Although the monogram thing did start in the north, it's very popular in the south for women and "southern belles"

This makes no sense. If every state was half and half every state would be purple......

How much a person makes is not as important as what that money will buy or how much of the money goes for taxes. Interesting that you have West Virginia in bold letters saying it is from the South. Where were you educated? West Virginia separated from Virginia because Virginia is Southern and West Virginia is a Northern State.

We go for a vacation to timeshares every year. Drive around the country and you can see who lives better. I have found the people in Arkansas, Virginia, Alabama, Oklahoma, North Carolina and Tennessee live in better surroundings than many parts of the country. And how on earth did Montana get so far towards the bottom of that list. Montana has some of the richest people in the nation.

I'm pretty sure his statement was tongue-in-cheek.

That is not necessarily true. In 1972 North Carolina got its first Republican governor since the Civil War. The presidential election is not the same politics as the state and county elections where you know the people running. North Carolina really mixes it up on state and local elections. Our town does not mention party in our elections. We have a Democrat mayor and a mixture of parties in the city council but most people don't even know that because we vote for the person. I only know it because I know the candidates personally.

Here is a map of county registered voters in North Carolina by party. Somebody must have gotten their colors mixed up if North Carolina is a red state.

The Western part of the state where the highest scholastic test scores usually come from is mostly Republican.

Threads like these are always about politics but if people would stop moving out of the northeast and upper midwest they would stop losing seats. I know my state is one of the out migration states, and I know why as well. Maybe some of it has to do with a better tech and stem economy down south and better weather and beaches but alot of it has to do with high taxes, unions, government corruption and bad government and a welfare state up north combined with a high cost of living .

Basically huge levels of government spending, huge and generous welfare benefits, forced-union requirements?

Why dont we have a thread on this massive loss of population in the north to the sunbelt and the south and what created the the rust belt?

Its amazing to see this massive demographic change to the south and no one seems willing to talk about why. Southern and Sunbelt states dominate these positive outlooks for economies , rust and frost belt states all seem to be on the bottom.

"This study measures what might be the most important demographic trend in America: the huge shift of economic resources from blue states to red states. "

Rich States, Poor States - 2015 Economic Outlook

there is a great quote from "rich state poor state" ,

"Welfare benefits in many Northeast
states pay the equivalent of a $32,000 a year
salaried job.

Former Pennsylvania Secretary of
Public Welfare Gary Alexander found that a single
mother of two in the Keystone State is better off
working a job that pays $29,000, than a job that
pays $69,000.

When you add the government
benefits ($28,327) that come with the $29,000
job, the result is $57,327 in net income.

If the
same mother worked a job that pays $69,000,
after taxes she would only take home $57,045,
which would disqualify her from receiving government
assistance.

Strikingly, Pennsylvania is not even among the
most generous states in the Northeast in terms
of providing public assistance."
