Some people have named some very expensive cities. I would check out some little towns in northern Florida, on either coast. Stay away from South Florida and the real touristy sections like Sarasota and St. Augustine.
It just seems like you could have done some preliminary research . . .
I'm not the OP, I simply responded to their question...this is a website where people come to talk about cities, after all. You're advice of "looking at a map" doesn't do much good since:
1. You can't tell how expensive a city is by looking at it on a map (Four of the five most expensive cities in the country--NYC, SF, LA, Boston--are located directly on the coast).
2. You can't tell which cities are going to have walkable downtowns (cities like Houston & Tampa are all on the coast, but aren't very walkable)
So looking at a map will simply allow the OP to know what cities are on the coast, but not allow them to know what cities have their desired characteristics.
Perhaps you should just not respond to the topic if you're not going to add anything to the conversation.

EXACTLY. And Thank you to all who were kind enough to make suggestions. Yes, I could have just looked at a map, but getting some suggestions is far more efficient as I'm sure these people have actually BEEN to these cities and can give an accurate portrayal of their ambiance and cost of living. Either way, at least I have a list of cities to start off with.
