Cairo is also at equal latitude with Wakita and Braman, Oklahoma, while at the opposite end of Illinois, Rockford is equal latitude with Cape Cod, Pocatello, Idaho, and Medford, Oregon.

Houston is by itself on the Texas coast while a megapolis has formed along I-35 in the middle of the state. The area east of I-35 is as large as a medium-sized state.

NJ with 8.7 Million more than doubles in population by adding only cities and counties that border NJ

NYC 8.6M
Philly 1.6M
New Castle DE .6M
Kent DE .2M
Sussex DE .2M
Delaware County PA .6M
Bucks County PA .6M
Northampton PA .3M
Monroe PA .2M
Pike PA .1M
Westchester NY 1M
Rockland NY .3M
Orange NY .4M

Border Counties/Cities =14.7M
NJ = 8.7M
Combined with directly neighboring counties = 23.4M (larger than Florida and nearly the population of TX) and would still be a very small area state
