My grandfather, who was an FBI agent, said you should never carry a gun unless you are prepared to use it. If you aren't willing to shoot someone it becomes a liability. How many people are willing to shoot someone?

I live on the diverse, low-income side of my city. In the five years I've been here, I have never heard of a single incident in which a person out at night needed to defend himself against a stranger.

I am not sure if you had a gun on you if it would really help.

My opinion, anyone where it's proven that they are in a gang should automatically get executed. That's really the only reason the U.S. has high murder rate, it's because of our gangs. I have no sympathy for them and really could care less if they die. They are among some of the lowest people on this Earth. No respect for life and just wasting the life of others.

I hear ya. I assume it's like that in most cities, but in Florida a lot of random people are targeted for murders and I think it's the same around Atlanta and other places. It's mostly for robbery but people have killed for nothing enough times to make you wonder. That's what I'm used to hearing about and it's why I ask questions like this.

I think if they gave long sentences to people with an illegal firearm you could prevent a lot of this.

Most random murders aren't committed by hispanics or whites. I'm assuming that's mostly what Victoria Texas is. it's different depending on where you live. Florida's real bad for that. I think Georgia and Louisiana might be too.

Well we're talking about the hoods of these cities. I could throw St. Louis hoods in here too. Heard they're pretty rough.

Yeah I've heard that expression too. I think you should definetly practise your shot a lot before carrying for protection.

7.5% black, nearly all of them living on this side of town, so more like 15% in the neighborhood.

I lived in an affluent beachfront area of South Florida and had a home invasion and also threatened many times in Riviera Beach while on my bicycle coming home from work. In the home invasion, I had a shotgun under my bed that wasnt chambered, but when the thug saw it coming out he left quickly. On the bicycle, I carried an 800,000 volt cattle prod after my first altercation. South Florida is the scariest, most randomly violent area of the many states I have lived. I would never go out in South Florida unarmed
I hate guns and gun culture, but its a necessary evil that you hate a little less when you wake up to an angry thug in your bedroom and just the sight of the shootin' iron puts a quick end to the situation

I doubt I would attempt to walk around the hood...why would anyone choose to? I wouldn't want to walk anywhere I didn't feel safe enough go without being armed.

The scenario is whether you had to be there for any reason not whether you would choose to?

I would not want to walk anywhere I did not feel safe either but anything can happen anywhere. People get way too comfortable with their environment, they often find themselves caught off-guard when something does happen and they are unprepared to act.

I think being armed increase your chances of your own safety and do not agree with cities like Chicago and Washington, D.C. that take away citizens rights to bear arms while they do nothing to prevent those who could careless about their law.
