I used to bash St. Louis a lot during the first year or two I was here (I moved at the height of the economic crisis) but I took the money I had saved due to cheap cost of living and visited London, Toronto, Chicago, New York, Boston, Philly, Baltimore, DC, Atlanta, Miami, Denver, Houston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego within the last 2 years... many of these cities for the first time. I realized I actually wasn't missing a whole lot and I am already getting an extraordinary life for the price I am paying. After that realization I am loving my adopted hometown much more. The occasional parochialism of the local politics is annoying but I ended up really loving this city.
