I know everyone in my building, and many of the people who live in other buildings on our block and the block behind us. I'm not a very outgoing person, either.

I got to meet a good number of my neighbors after Hurricane Sandy, when everyone needed help bailing their basements out, ripping out drywall, and piling storm debris 5 feet high on the curb down the length of the block. Everyone helped each other out, with labor, food/water, finding connections to get contractors on site quickly, or just stopping to talk about experiences with the storm, etc.

So I may not see or say hi to most of my neighbors on a regular basis, but I have evidence that when s--- gets real, we come together anyway.

Car crashes are great for meeting neighbors. When there is a car crash out in the street, everyone hears it and rushes outside and stands and gawks, and that's the first chance I ever have to talk to my neighbors. Fires work, too, but they are pretty infrequent.

Hahahaha, what? Who would do this? It's rude to do that to someone who just had the misfortune, and a waste of time. That wouldn't be me going out there.
