I've noticed how NYC transplants are relocated along on the eastern seaboard. Very few venture west or the Midwest. Why is that?

Maybe they want to have access to I-95 if they need to get home quickly for family reasons or the idea of moving thousands of miles away is just scary as compared to only hundreds of miles and they can still have mountains or the beach (although the Rockies and the Pacific do seem a bit more majestic than the Appalachians and the Atlantic based on my having been to both, but I also wouldn't move 2,000 miles from my family either).

That's funny, I know a ton of transplanted New Yorkers in California, recent ones as well. They work in tech, finance, engineering, the entertainment industry etc. Or they just want a change. At least that's my experience.

I moved to Atlanta from NY. I would like to live out West at some point but the Midwest doesn't really appeal to me except maybe Chicago. I'm not even sure that I'd like LA.

A lot of New Yorkers end up liking Detroit. Or at least people who lived in New York City at one point, not necessarily native New Yorkers (I'd assume long time New Yorkers would tend to relocate in cities that are at least somewhat as active as what they're used to).

Generally they don't go to the Mountains or Plains states. It's not uncommon to see them in California or Washington state though, as well as the Midwest.

I've met a large number of people from NYC living in California. I think Arizona around Phoenix is also a fairly popular spot.

Oh there are definitely more than a couple out here. Seemed to notice a few NY plates in Chicago when I was last there too but that might have been just a coincidence.

I've noticed a general trend of Northeasterners moving to California, and Californians moving to the Pac NW, desert SW, and the Rockies.
