Why do you think marijuana is not legal on a federal level (pharmacy, taxi)

Just wondering everyones thoughts on the topic.

I personally think because the big pharmacy companies will lose some profit since medical marijuana has so many uses.

I personally think "medical marijuana" is a rouse. I don't believe it legitimately treats anything. Medical marijuana was merely a way for California to get around the federal law and decriminalize a harmless substance, while still taxing it to a certain extent.

In the city of San Francisco, marijuana possession in amounts for personal use is not even ticketed, unless it happens in conjunction with another crime. The effect here is that it's no big deal. Pot is easy to get and the quality is high. Nobody cares if you smoke outside in broad daylight if you want.

So, federal or even state legalization beyond where it is now with the pot dispensaries and the ease of getting a card would have no little to no effect on California. When a person can have an 1/4 delivered to his workplace by messenger, wrapped up in a branded package, with a re-order card and a pack of gummy bears in the bag, it's about as legal as it's ever going to be.

There are a lot of places in the country where you can't even get wine delivered that way and it's been "federally legal" for almost 100 years.

I think marijuana does have alot of medical uses for people who actually need it. But i think that most people who have medical marijuana cards are just abusing it for personal use.

Because the pharmacy companies are lobbying to keep it illegal in order to keep selling deadly pills. Also, police departments and government officials make millions from letting the stuff slide through the border.

Allow me to amend my statement. It can certainly help people, such as with their appetites, when they are taking strong drugs for AIDS or cancer. But it's hard to see how it actually treats anything--especially when delivered via smoking. I think people who claim otherwise are kidding themselves. This is coming from an unashamed recreational user, by the way.

Found this today and i find it pretty ironic.

One of the reasons marijuana is illegal today because cotton growers in the 30s lobbied against hemp farmers --they saw it as competition. It is not chemically addictive as is nicotine, alcohol, or caffeine.

I'll go with this one. Cops will usually bust someone for pot, because they cant find any other charges to throw at people that "don't look or behave as they should" and usually generates a few hundred or thousand dollars to the city coffers per bust.

I havent touched the stuff since the mid 1980s, I don't like what it did to me. It should be legalized. It is far less harmful than booze or cigarettes (and with proper taxation will still be a generator of revenue for any given government).
