I'll take Tiburon (or adjacent Belvedere) any day. The mild, sunny Mediterranean climate is among the best in the Bay Area, it's right on the water, it has some wonderful mixed use trails for bikers, joggers and walkers, good schools, and if you want entertainment, restaurants and nightlife, you can take the ferry to San Francisco. If you like skiing, Lake Tahoe is only about a 4-5 hour drive away, and it's also an hour or less from the Wine Country.

How does Sausalito, Tiburon, and Belvedere all compare to each other in your opinion?

I should have included Carmel and Monterey, California. Oh well, I am sure that I left out a number of good places. Newport Beach and Laguna, California are a couple other places that I could have or should have mentioned as well.

My family lived in La Jolla and i went to school there but wouldn't want it today. It's lost that village atmosphere it used to have. I love Carmel. Sun Valley is nice (my parents had a home there for several years). But I think I'd choose Hilton Head.

Santa Barbara, the best of all worlds.

Beautiful setting
Beautiful weather

I love my island, but really more in line with the peer communities listed here is neighboring Sea Island.

I like Amelia Island. It doesn't beat you over the head with snob appeal and is near a major city (Jacksonville) for all the conveniences.

If Martha's Vineyard was a choice, I'd pick it for similar reasons. Difference would be having to take a ferry to Hyannis for more.

As for those on the list, maybe Greenwich due to its proximity to NYC.
