We are quite confused since the weather doesn't look promising all over the US. Rain, snow and sleet. We have got several days and would like to go on a road trip to nice place with mild weather. What you guys suggest? Anything other than Chicago, as we go there a lot. We are leaving from Wisconsin area.

Thank you.

A road trip from Wisconsin to Key West and back sounds like my absolute worst nightmare. Idk what the weather forecasts are coming up, but if you're looking for something more warm weather as a road trip from Wisconsin and for fun on NYE/Day, I'd say New Orleans. And take the route that brings you through Nashville so you have a midpoint stop along the way down, and then the route through Memphis/STL on the way up.

I've never been to Nashville, and would love to visit. NOLA weather is nothing but rain for the next several days.

Hard to escape the rain on the Gulf Coast. Visiting there comes with the assumption you're going to get rained on at least for a bit. I'm not sure if December rain there is different from summer/spring rain, but when I visited in May, it rained most days, but it's the typical Southern-style downpour for just 20 minutes with light rain for about an hour, then clear the rest of the day. Maybe someone else has more experience with NoLa in winter, but I don't.

And Nashville is awesome. Definitely worth a visit for anyone! Not as fun as NoLa, but still a great city.

Weekend looks dry in Nashville. What is it like to drive through Mississippi to New Orleans?

Pretty easy drive, but long. Interstate the whole way. You could go through either Memphis or Birmingham. It's about an hour's drive shorter through Alabama, probably more stuff along the way than the Mississippi route.

How does the route Nashville to Chattanooga to Atlanta, then Tallahassee to New Orleans, driving through all the beaches down there ( like panama city and Biloxi) sound?

My husband and I love to visit New Orleans during this time of year. The weather is usually pretty temperate and it's not overrun by tourists.

I agree. It's mild and nice, but the rain we are a little concerned about, in NOLA and on our way to get there. However, if nothing else comes up, then New Orleans will be our destination.
