Well....the OP asked for opinions which are by definition subjective so what else would be expected?

What do you find creepy about Bristol VA? It's just your typical retail sprawl surrounded by residential areas, and an old downtown core, not much different than hundreds of other older towns. Not the prettiest town, but I've seen worse.

Philly and Baltimore have some REAL poverty that shouldn't even be allowed in the year 2013. Same with a lot of NYC and Jersey.

agree with the premis, though allowed may be the wrong term, is sad regardless and surprising on the level of and QOL that is in many large swaths

"Negative" threads aren't allowed in this forum.

So this thread will probably be locked by a moderator.

I am likewise curious to hear why Rochester, NY gave off that vibe. Living here I obviously do not get the same impressions that outsiders might.

I sure hope not. Weird and eerie don't necessarily have to be negative. Weird is cool and eerie is fascinating. This thread has potential to be very interesting.

Anyway, here's my list:

5. Woodstock, VA
4. Williamsport, PA
3. Toledo, OH
2. Detroit, MI
1. Johnstown, PA

Weston, Massachusetts. The closest match to Stepford I've seen anywhere.

I grew up in Utica and I agree about the vibe. After I moved away it was noticeable every time I returned. It is hard to put your finger on it but there is a feeling of defeat in the air, like people have given up and are no longer trying. But that isn't it exactly, it has a slight Twilight Zone feel too. The Mohawk Valley in general seems like its own little world.
