Portland will get an NHL team before Seattle as there is already a team a few miles up north (Vancouver)
Vancouver is about 3 hours north with the border crossing. Plus they sellout every single game. The NHL fans in the Lower Mainland outside of Vancouver proper & folks in Victoria want a team in Seattle so they have another option to see NHL hockey.
Seattle is a larger market than Portland and has a major winter sports void. The only way for a Portland franchise to work would be for Seattle area resident Paul Allen to own the team as he controls the building there.
The NHL has been talking to multiple interested Seattle groups in recent months.....

Haha, yeah, I took his words at face value but you're right, the Canucks are one of THE most popular hockey franchises in the NHL!
I don't know why Portland OR Seattle would get a hockey team, because people in those cities don't play or follow hockey like they do in the Midwest/Northeast and Canada. I realize there's market potential there but you know how that experiment has worked for some Sun Belt teams and NHL's last expansion....
So you endorse the very thing that took your beloved Sonics away from Seattle: stealing a team away from a market whose had one for decades?
That's the way it works in today's NBA unfortunately. People in Milwaukee, Memphis, Detroit, LA (Clippers), etc. should lobby the NBA to expand & rectify the mega mistake of allowing OKC to shiestily steal away the Sonics.

Nonsense. TJ Oshie is from the Seattle area. Both Seattle and Portland are big time major-junior hockey markets. The Seattle area (Everett & Kent) and Portland regularly rate among the top of total avg. minor/junior league attendance. Seattle also has one of the larger adult recreational hockey leagues in the USA.
Seattle won the USA's first Stanley Cup championship & is two hours away from the Canadian border...

Describe "big-time". Bigger than Canada? Bigger than MN, WI, MI? Bigger than New England?
It was from some sports business blog or journal. The local TV data came from Nielsen. OKC's TV market is relatively small, so despite high local ratings, the total # of people watching the team ranks poorly among the NBA franchises. New Orleans and Memphis were the bottom two.

That's not surprising as Oklahoma City is a small market area. There is reason why OKC only has 1 pro-sports team.
I took the last 3 years and in every case Washington was NOT #1, so you were wrong, period. That being said, I did give credit to Washington for being as high up as it was, considering the team's performance especially.
Might want to look at capacity of those stadiums vs actual attendance. I 40K stadium can only hold 40K people. It will always get beat out by an 80K stadium filled with only 45K people.
Not saying that is the case here, but the numbers in itself don't prove anything until you figure out capacity
Have you noticed that all three of Pittsburgh's major league sports teams use the same team colors (black and yellow), by the baseball Pirates, the football Steelers and the hockey Penguins.
Have you noticed that in all four major team sports, there are teams that could use the same mascot, even though they have different names: Football's Chicago Bears, Baseball's Chicago Cubs, Hockey's Boston Bruins, and basketball's Memphis Grizzlies.
Do any teams have a feminine nickname? None in the major leagues, but in top level minor baseball league, there are the Toledo Mud Hens. Also, in the Mexican League, the Campeche Piratas (Pirates) and Tabasco Olmecas (Olmecs) , the team nicknames are feminine nouns, and a player on that team would be properly referred to as "she" if referred to as "una Pirata", as in "a Yankee" or "a Dodger". By extension, since 'pirata' in Latin is a feminine noun , the Pittsburgh Pirates have a feminine team nickname. The Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League have a feminine nickname.
