What cities have the best freshwater lake shoreline? This can range small lakes within Minneapolis or Seattle to Great Lakes shoreline in Chicago or Milwaukee. Things to consider....
Most scenic shoreline
City/lakeside beaches
Downtown lakeside waterfronts
Boating/Marinas
Lakeside parks/recreation/bike trails
Overall Favorite/Best lake that compliments the city
Surely Minneapolis, Toronto, and Chicago should run away with this? With Madison and Milwaukee and Duluth forming a solid Tier 2?
Most scenic shoreline: Toronto and Chicago
City/lakeside beaches: Toronto
Downtown/lakeside waterfronts: Chicago
Boating/Marinas: Minneapolis
Lakeside parks/recreation/bike trails: Minneapolis then Toronto then Chicago
Overall Favorite: Minneapolis lakes are the best incorporated into the city without question, but the Great Lakes are effectively coastline, so they are an entirely different animal. Chicago is more impressive than Toronto; Toronto is more user-friendly than Chicago.
Of the lakefront cities I have been too, Chicago and Milwaukee are far and away my favorites. Bradford Beach in Milwaukee is probably my favorite great lakes beach in the Midwest..
Also, Detroit is included in the poll as a lake city. It is not on a lake unless Detroit is code for all of SE Michigan.
I voted for Burlington, VT. I don't need a major city. I like a quaint town that's big enough to have everything I need. If Couer d'Alene were bigger, I'd vote for it.

Pretty sure Lake St. Clair counts as a lake.
