Indianapolis as a whole incorporates a much larger geographical area and make-up than Toledo, Des Moines, and Omaha. That's not say Indianapolis is a walker's paradise, because it largely is not. It is worth pointing out the context though. If we were comparing Lucas County to Marion County, in this context, that would be a more useful measure.

Though..........the premise of the thread is flawed to begin with. All of the big midwest cities have walkable neighborhoods and areas that are pedestrian hostile.

Agreed. The only larger Southern cities that have significant walkable sections of town that are nice are Charleston, Savannah, New Orleans, Louisville (debatably Midwestern or Southern), and to a lesser extent Memphis and Birmingham.


The South's largest cities - Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, etc - are mostly large downtown office parks surrounded by suburbs
