Pacific NW & Mountain states:
Favourite: Seattle, I guess. I like Portland but haven't had extended stays there.
Least: Anywhere east of the cascades! And Tacompton.
Southwest:
Favourite: San Francisco
Least: Greater LA/Inland Empire area. Total cultural and visual wasteland, other than the coast.
Midwest:
Favourite: Really, really love Minnesota! My husband is from St. Cloud, we go back every so often to see his family, and it's a real nice place with nice people.
Least: The real rundown areas of Michigan and Ohio.
Northeast:
Favourite: New York (NYC and Hudson Valley) and SW Connecticut!
Least: I really haven't been anywhere I disliked!
South:
Favourite: New Orleans. Definitely a fun city to visit!
Least: Everywhere else. I think certain parts of Texas (Austin, maybe?) might be nice, but the rest of it... well, I'd be scared to go there.
Canada:
Favourite: Love the Vancouver area, Toronto, Bruce Peninsula area, and Montreal.
Least: Regina.

No offense, but sounds like you're going off stereotypes and myths rather than any experience.
I didn't factor crime into "Least Favorites" because other reasons are more interesting (but did for "Favorites"). Everyone tries to avoid crime; that's obvious.

I can get an east coast feel from Seattle. I dislike religion.
Southwest: Favorite: San Francisco/ Least Favorite: Phoenix
SF is walkable, feels like an Asian city (in a good way), and gives off an "epic" vibe with all the hills. I do not like anything about Phoenix.
Midwest: Favorite: Minneapolis/ Least Favorite: Indianapolis
Mpls is walkable and safe (and the winter blows most of the trashy people away). I abhor cities like Indy, Phoenix, etc and the sprawl / cultureless / bland housing lifestyles they entail.
Northeast: Favorite: Boston/ Least Favorite: Burlington
Boston is my dream city; sophisticated, European, walkable etc. I hate hippie culture (and no, SF and Seattle are not as hippiefied).
South: Favorite: Tampa/ Least Favorite: Greenville
Even though Tampa is sprawling, I have a personal bond with the place since I vacationed there. Greenville: closed-minded.
Canada: Favorite: Toronto/ Least Favorite: Montreal
