As I travel around the world, and also the USA when I come home, I realize that Florida really is so unique compared to anywhere else in the lower 48. As we all know, every place on Earth has its positive and negative attributes. However, lets say I am visiting southern Virginia, and then another trip to Oregon or Maine.....nothing compares to Florida. Especially along the coasts, which we technically have 3 coasts.
I just wonder how amazed others are when they pop down to Florida, find themselves somewhere along the aqua blue coast, with a palm tree waving, and the sun setting. I don't love the populated towns, so much like Ft Laud, but talking more about more isolated areas.
I agree with you that is Florida is different among the lower 48, especially from a natural perspective. Coral reefs, mangrove swamps, the Florida panther, manatees, tropical plants, underwater caves and springs, etc - Florida has a lot that few or no other states have.
From the human perspective Florida is not as unique but the Mediterranean architecture is noticeably different from most states.
I said, 3 coasts, because we have the Atlantic, the Gulf, and the southern parts, (Florida Keys) basically mixes both, called the Florida Straights. And yes I meant unique mostly in terms of flora, fauna, wildlife etc.
Florida is pretty unique but California and Texas could claim that as well especially California they say has the most varied climate and varied geography on earth.
Technically, but it doesn't matter. The coasts are very different from each other in look, feel, color of the water and surf. They are distinctly different, and considered as separate.

Don't forget Biscayne Bay! And then there's Tampa Bay! And gosh - Apalachicola Bay! And I almost forgot Pensacola Bay Now that I think about it, Florida has a bigillionmillion coasts!!!

how could you forget the Okeechobee coast? Come on now!
And yes, the east and west coast of Florida are very different to look and feel. The Keys, and the islands around it also have a very distinct feel to the east and west coasts.
