Now the downside to a place like NYC is that NYC is heavily urbanized, we all know this. Niantic has different types of pokemon spawn in different types of areas.
This is false. Its been confirmed that you can catch all of the currently available Pokemon in NYC city limits. There are people in NYC already with almost filled out Pokedex, and the game has been out for only a week.
In fact, you can catch MOST of the currently available Pokemon minus some evolutions in Central Park alone.

I would hope so. Even here in suburban Irvine there is a pokestop every block. I would imagine city cores would have hundreds or thousands.
I'd prefer to avoid finding dead bodies, getting robbed at gunpoint and being hit by cars while gaming. Pokemon is an incredibly stupid fad that has been going on (largely behind the scenes) since I was a teenager, and it was as dumb then as it is today.
The teen girl found the body of a (probable) drowning victim near a popular trail. The man who was robbed concedes that he shouldn't have been walking in that area and continues to play. The teen who was hit by a car could just as well have been texting.
Pokemon Go successfully distracting the nation from all sorts of bad stuff. Wonder if a game can get the Peace Prize?
