Most neighborhoods in Denver are safe;. Park Hill, Washington Park, West Wash Park, Highlands, Berkley are just some.

For Jacksonville it would be the Riverside neighborhood. It's gotten a lot pricier in the past 5 years though, so now you'd probably be looking at 185k for a small cottage on the fringes, or maybe there might be a condo starting at 125k or so.

Denver is not cheap. The neighborhoods I listed are some of the hipster 'hoods. There are other, less expensive neighborhoods as well.

Riverside is very cool! I visited it for the first time earlier this year.
