The South has generally always been held under the stereotype of being slow-paced, easy-going, friendly, and more appreciative of things like natural beauty, religion, and values.
The North (specifically the Northeast) has always been known for its fast-paced lifestyle, its "hustle-bustle" culture from Pennsylvania Avenue, Wall Street, and all the way up to Beacon Hill. The North seems to place a larger emphasis on the working class, money, and power.
A Boston radio talk show host once said (jokingly), "People living in the South are living at least 60 years behind the rest of the country" Of course we all know this statement is false, and even a little harsh, what do you think was meant by this statement in regards to North VS south culture?
I think the South is slower paced than the north because of the heat and humidity. Humidity tends to remove all the motivation out of me, so maybe that's how it is in the South. As such, they've probably adjusted their culture to fit that?

You said it! During the short winter here in Georgia, I feel great and am able to really hustle. During the long hot humid summer though, I just want to lay around. Just cutting the grass for an hour is harsh. Every outdoor activity must be followed by a cool shower. Most of my jobs have been outside and I frequently come home soaked.

It's because historically, the North was built on an industrial economy that spawned and relied on built-up urban areas, whereas the South was largely agrarian.
