From what I've been able to find out Tampa is about half the size of Houston(metropolitian population). Both are Gulf Coast cities, both stay warm in the winter. Please help me with the major or even subtle differences between them. Which do you prefer, why? Thank you.

It's 44 degrees and very foggy in Houston right now. With the humidity it feels like 39. If you call that warm...

Houston can get very cold in the winter and that's why I would prefer to live in Tampa. Houston is also about 40 or 50 miles from the coast and I think Tampa is right on the coast. The beaches are probably a lot nicer in Tampa.

I've only been to the Tampa area and I LOVED it there. Tarpon Springs was my favorite. I loved the Greek and community feel.

Houston is way more cosmopolitan than Tampa, not to mention twice as large.

Houston is historically known for having a strong and diverse economy. Something to consider in bad economic times.

Tampa is about 20 miles from the coast. You have to cross the bay and then Pinellas County (St Petersburg/Clearwater) to get there.

I felt Tampa was void of any culture, maturity and vibrancy. Houston easily gets my vote.
