I voted for Interstate 80. Maybe because it's the cross country highway I've frequented the most. I've taken lots of trips from here in the Chicago area to the Rockies and quite a few times all the way to California. I live less than a mile from I80.

I like the interstates that cross the great plains and Rocky mountains. I've always wanted to take a long, long drive on some of the US highways. You get a different perspective of America and get to see the small towns along the way. I frequently travel US 2 through North Dakota from Grand Forks to Williston - a wonderful and relaxing drive.

The key to satisfying road trips is to not be in a hurry. Most people it seems are so concerned with getting to the destination that nothing else matters and you don't enjoy the drive. I'll frequently get off the main highway and drive around some of the small towns. Very rewarding to see how small town America lives. It's so nice to get away from the big city area that I live in. Someday it will be a permanent thing for me.

The Interstate 70/15 corridor is one of the most scenic and fastest ways to traverse the country.

I love the drive on I-70.. except for the radical speed limit changes. They kind of suck.

Interstate 10. Like previous posters have said, it goes through subtropical swamps, windswept plains, scorching desert, and mediterranean scrub. Very scenic.

It was a tough one for me; I like all of the Interstates, especially in the Western half of the U.S. I guess what swayed me to I-80 is that I love running it in PA (especially in the Fall!)

Route 40 doesn't actually go all the way across the country though, due to 80 because it used to go all the way

Nor does interestate 40

Rt. 30 (Lincoln Hwy.) was the first and has a lot of history.

You are right, I took the 10 to the 8. Basically the same drive as the 10, but instead of driving from the desert into the hell that is known as LA, you get to drive from the desert to awesome San Diego.
