Massachusetts doesn't require full service, but I choose to go to a full service place. Much more convenient. I agree that the extra jobs that full service places provide are a benefit to the economy.
The full service stations are employing people. As I said before, I usually went to the same station and the same attendant. Nice man. I was happy to use their services and give him a job to support himself and his family.
The idea of a full service station is interesting to me. Where I'm from the attendants sit behind bulletproof glass and accept money through a metal box in the window after a certain time
I like pumping my gas myself. I'm very careful so as not to spill gas on the side of the car. I remember in the past when Illinois had full service this happening. I'm OK with both options as long as I am given the choice how I want to fill my car.
We have one full-service station in my town. I don't personally use it, but I think it's nice we have one as an option. I know a few people who always use it, unless it is an absolute emergency.
There are still a few full service stations left in Shreveport; mostly in areas where the people are older and have money. I never could get my Mom to pump her own gas as she thought it to be unladylike (although she never said in so many words). And it is good to have some regular gas station attendants and mechanics who can help some of these old ladies out (hopefully they aren't all trying suggest alot of unnecessary work)

Reason: punctuation
So what happens if you pull up to a gas station in New Jersey or Oregon and just get out and pump your own darn gas? Do you get arrested? Do you get thrown out of the gas station?

The guy comes over & tells you he will do it.
No tip BTW...........................

Great question! I have witnessed people doing just that, not out of spite, but just unaware. Usually, an attendant will come up and politely remind the person that it is a "no self-serve state". I have never seen anyone dispute it, but I'm sure it occurs occasionally. Not sure what happens in those cases. The station still wants the business, so I doubt they would call authorities.
