Which city propers are gaining the Black middle-class? We hear so much about a few cities, but what about the other city propers in America? What are the top 10 city propers in America for middle-class Black household growth?

I think it’s safe to say most cities are losing lower-income Black households, but are they simultaneously gaining Black middle-class households?

I’m mostly interested in #6-10. Let’s use $75k as the cutoff for household income. Thoughts?

Middle class blacks are flooding into Las Vegas, Atlanta, and Texas cities. Not sure about other areas though.

Yeah pretty much. I think I read somewhere that Charlotte might be one of the few cities that isn't experiencing a high suburbanization of Black people in America. But than again I could be wrong on that.

I know most of the Black Middle class are moving to the burbs in Dallas. Same with Houston even though I do believe there's a significant amount of Middle class Black singles moving into West Houston and The Galleria area which is in the city proper. But Houston city proper is pretty massive and spread out though.

But why do I get the feeling this thread will turn into a pro-DC thread?

Charlotte’s city proper is also pretty large and spread out—with some large, newly-built suburban areas.

Not including DC, Atlanta, NYC, Houston, and perhaps Dallas. You would have to think Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, Columbus, OH, Baltimore, and maybe a Indianapolis? Las Vegas and Phoenix are two others.

Total opposite. Blacks are fleeing Baltimore and it is overwhelminglymiddle class families. Theyre fleeing Baltimore for Howard County Harford County and Baltimore County. Theres a black middle class here due to sheer numbers but it feels so very small as most black middle class people not working for the city look at you strange if you live in Baltimore City. After 4 years here Ive gotten the memo now..

Columbus
Raleigh
Indianpolis
Minneapolis*
Las Vegas
Charlotte
Washington DC
Houston
Dallas
Phoenix

Those are 10 I can think of

Honorable mentions to Seattle, Boston (Upper Middle Class), New Haven, Austin, Tampa. I'd include Huntsville but its metro is 1/2 of New Haven, not really a major city.

* Not sure how much is working class or refugee, vs middle class

I went back and read the OP and he did state city proper so yeah, take that out. I originally thought he meant metro.

You beat me to it! Charlotte has a larger percentage of its "suburbs" within the city limits. By land area, Charlotte is more than twice the size of Atlanta.

Good list, but what makes this tough is that almost all of these cities are spread out.

To the original question, I wouldn’t be surprised if this would be more of a satellite city thing. For instance, a couple of small cities like Middletown NY and Brockton MA have about 40%+ of their black households have incomes of $75,000 or higher. So, those are the kinds of cities where the black middle class likely grew.
