And there's a part of route 1 in either Norwood or Dedham where you have a great view of the Boston skyline from maybe 15-20 miles away. And there's a motel there named Cityview or Skyline View or something but I can't remember
you can see the city from the Hull Marina, but i dont know how far it is, straight line, but its about a 35 minute drive from Boston

But unless you are on a hill or a high overpass like the one on 485 south of the city you really can't see it from very far away because it is hilly and heavily forested.
I've seen Charlotte from Hickory on the NC 16.

Hey, look what we have here.

I took this photo on Shippan Point in Stamford, Connecticut. Its about 31 miles away from Manhattan. As awesome as the photo is, it doesn't really captures the grandiose appearance of the NYC skyline despite the distance. Amazing!

In the center if Lower Manhattan (the Wall Street area) with the Freedom Tower (yes, I know its called something else now, but I don't remember) clearly visible with its construction cranes. On the right is the Midtown Manhattan Skyline, with the Chrysler Building clearly visible. Sorry, the Empire State Building is blocked by that annoying pine tree. You can see the spire of the Empire State Building rising above the pine tree. lol Ah well...

"These are by no means necessarily the only points on Long Island you can see NYC, they're just the farthest that I personally know. As for Jones Beach and Fire Island, I've heard you used to be able to see the WTC from there, so I assume you'll be able to see the new One World Trade Center once it's completed."

I was at West End 2 yesterday (Jones Beach) and the new WTC building is clearly visible with the naked eye. Binoculars show the cranes atop the roof. If you pan northward along the horizon with the binocs you'll come to the spire of the Empire State Building, also visible unaided, though barely. I'm almost certain I caught the sloped roof of the Citigroup Center thru the binocs, too.

Here's the Empire State Building from Glen Cove. Can you spot it? It's the tiny thing poking over the trees in the center of the shot.

I saw Lincoln NE's skyline about 10 miles west on I-80. Pretty impressive for a skyline of it's size, and the relatively hilly terain. The Nebraska State Capitol is beautiful!!!
