To me, New England represents the best of America.
We're liberal where it counts, but we're not afraid to be conservative in how we act, just like the good descendants of Puritans that we are.
We've adapted to our very odd landscape. Our families were either merchants, farmers, fisherman or mill workers. And thorugh the nessecity of place, we developed this concept of "yankee ingenuity."
It is our fierce spirit of independence, which too me, still shows through even now, but can be traced through every major event that has shaped our history, from the founding of Plymouth, to the Tea Party to Abolition to workers rights, the gay rights. There seems to be this idea that for as independent as we the individual can be, we really do rely on each other. That a society is built on a strong individual-kind of like a chain.
I'm getting too nostalgic about life and the history of New England, but my family roots run deep here, so oblige me, lol.

Although, compared to you, my ancestors are relative newcomers to New England (came in the 1800s from Ireland, Quebec. One of my grandfathers came in the 1900s from Scotland.) I could not imagine being raised anywhere else. New England is the greatest land in the world. You mentioned a lot of what I love about our home, but a few other things:
Town Meetings, History of Public Education, and of course the natural beauty.
