OK this may well be a question that is asked every week, but if so, I apologise.
Anyway, it's now mid May and here in the UK it has been another wasted weekend of wind, rain, cold temperatures and general miserableness.
So a seed has been planted. Very small at the moment but as it's lashing down outside I thought I may aswell do some research.
If I can persuade my wife I would love to relocate with the family. It's not a simple task...I have a business, schooling, friend, etc, etc but others have done it, so not impossible.
So, my rather long winded question is a simple one....where?
Initially I thought California, but could you guys suggest anywhere else specific for me to look into.
Our ideal place would be warm all year, but not too far to ski in winter? (that bit is a luxury) hence the California. We are used to a smallish, quiet village over here so wouldn't want a city initially, lots of nice quiet roads and hills to cycle, sea not too far. Something like that.
Have been on a few holidays to the US, not California yet, but love the people, positive attitude and general way of life...I want in.

If you can afford the coastal area between LA and San Fran (or north of San Fran) offers many towns (coastal), warm weather, and actually skiing. It reminds me of Italy.
some things to think about in AZ is that it is hot; not "warm" but hot temperatures reach 120 there (not sure of the Celcius translation but think hell) - though areas like Sedona are unbelievable and a little cooler but are much further from the coast. You also may want to consider the mountainess areas of North Carolina and Georgia which may meet you bill; though will have a little more of four seasons but more affordable compared to the CA coast.

California (I agree with kidphilly's suggestions; CA's Central Coast or north of SF). It fits your wish list quite well. The only drawback for most people is cost.

Sounds perfect! Google Earth makes it look very nice too I'll have a virtual look round. Thanks.

Another city I would like to add to Sedona, AZ would be Flagstaff. Flagstaff is quite nice, but it can get very cold during winter, and a lot of snow.
However, I agree with Kidphilly's post, he's got this one covered.
