WHAT Nortonguy?! Augusta is the ONLY Georgia city outside Atlanta with a hispanic festival? WHERE do you come up with this stuff? BIG TIME FAIL DUDE!

Savannah has an annual Hispanic Heritage Festival, an Asian Festival, an Irish Festival (not to be confused with the St. Patrick's Day Festival which is entirely different), a Greek Festival, a Jewish Festival, a Scottish Festival, a Sea Islands Festival, a PIRATE Festival ... heck, there's even a SAVANNAH INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL to cover everybody left out! Then of course, there's the Savannah Music Festival (world renowned and comparable to Charleston's Spoleto), the Savannah Film Festival, the Spring Sidewalk Art Festival (when the sidewalks become the canvas), the Geekend (electronic gaming) festival, a Book Festival, monthly Fine Arts on the River festival, the American Traditions Vocal Competition (going on right now), a Seafood Festival, a Craft Brew Festival, a philharmonic, a choral society, live professional theater and more fine art galleries and first-rate museums than you can shake a stick at! All in all, Savannah offers more CULTURAL DIVERSITY in one month than Augusta does all year long.

Augusta is a fine city, but please ... STOP making it out to be something it is not!

Columbus hosts a Hispanic festival every year downtown at the Columbus Civic Center too along with many other festivals throughout the year. He just seems to stretch the truth/reality a lot. I agree with you, Savananah has more things (festivals, cultural events, etc.) going on than any other 2nd tier city.

Default Recommended Cites in Georgia

CookisN3Cream2011,

I am not sure about other posts, but Atlanta has changed so much for the last ten years. It is a well diverse city, growing and expanding. I have clients who loves Midtown and Buckhead areas, specially young professionals because of its proximity to their work and nightlife. Parks and recreation is actually all over the city and suburbs. There's always trail parks, sports and recreational facilities. Aside from those 2 mentioned, DUnwoody and Sandy SPrings are also another favor because of its location, close to Buckehead/Midtown and downtown. Hope this helps....

Try the Athens area, including the surrounding communities. The presence of the University of Georgia certainly influences that diversity. It is a walkable community and has an extensive bus service.

I failed to mention the annual Savannnah Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered Festival, which is indeed the only one of its kind in Georgia outside Atlanta. Nortonguy will probably point out that Augusta managed to pull together a Gay Pride Parade last year, but it hardly compares to Savannah's weekend-long event that attracts tens of thousands of gay and straight people alike. In fact, not only is Savannah's gay community quite large, it's also fully integrated and accepted by the population. That, to me, is a sure sign of a community's *DIVERSITY* !!!

I didn't know Savannah had a hispanic festival? How many days does it last and how many people attend?

Augusta has the opera, symphony, and choral society.. Even the suburban counties in Augusta(Columbia & Aiken) have there own choral society lol..
Home Page
Choral Society to meet Sunday | Aiken Standard | Aiken, SC (http://www.aikenstandard.com/Local/0818-ACS-promo - broken link)

Then the city has the Imperial theatre, Le Chat Noir theatre, and several museums here... The Miller theatre on Broad Street will be renovated in the future.. You're gonna tell me not to make Augusta something it's not. Then proceed to make the statement in bold... Especially if were comparing metro vs metro...

Richmond County alone has the Westobou, Arts in the Heart( featuring every single race/culture in america), gay festival, greek festival, hispanic festival, augusta festival , mayors recpetion, par 3, photography festival, first take film festival, Poison film festival, Georgia Renaissance festival, pasta festival, a day in the country festival, october fall in the common, border bash, wrdw family fair, night of fire, movies in the common, lunch in the common, trick or trot, memorial day concert festival, light the night, octoberfest, etc.

Augusta has gaming events here in the city too... 250 from around the united states attended the The annual Siege of Augusta Historical Miniature Gaming event.. The event was held this past weekend at the Doubletree hotel..

We also have a scientology church here in Augusta.

There are over 300 Hatians living in Richmond County alone...
Local Haitian community, mission workers fear loved ones lost in earthquake

There are only three buddhist temples in the entire state of GA. One of them is located in Augusta and two are in Atlanta and Decatur..

There is a German club of Augusta.. They throw parties to celebrate Fasching, Schutzenfest, Western Night, Maifest and Christmas.

Exactly what did I strecth the truth about? I said I didn't know Savannah or Columbus had a hispanic parade..

But talk about the pot calling the kettle black... A few weeks ago on city-data you tried to tell people the Columbus MSA is and I quote ''Actually closer to 600k'' Then when you got called out about the correct poupulation.. You tried to change it to ''I am talking about the region'' and ''Within a 30 mile radius of Columbus.
http://www.city-data.com/forum/city-...ne-oregon.html

We both know the Columbus MSA is 288k and the CSA is 449k. I would never add over 300k people and tell anybody metro Augusta is 840k residents...

SCIENTOLOGY? Now you've really blown it! In case you didn't know, Scientology is a CULT! Even L. Ron Hubbard was dumbounded that people actually believed in his crap.

"Augusta is home to a branch of the Scientology cult!" says Nortonguy. Well whoop-dee-do HOORAY!

Point remains: EVERY community in this state shows some degree of diversity, and Augusta is not unique. And Augusta most certainly is NOT the only Georgia city that recognizes and celebrates the contributions of its Hispanic citizens. Your statement was false. But then, you've seldom let truth or reality get in the way of your nonstop boosterism for Augusta have you? Keep living the dream buddy ...

I already said I made a mistake about the hispanic festival.. You still haven't shared with me how many days the latino festival in Savannah last and how many people attend?

The statement you made saying Savannah offers more cultural diversity in one month than Augusta does all year.. This statement is completely false and even laughable...

Don't Atlanta and most larger cities have a Scientology church? Scientology is a form of religious diversity, everybody doesn't want to attend a pentecostal or baptist church... The same goes for the Buddhist temple located in South Augusta.

Lol, you seldom let the truth or reality get in the way of your nonstop boosterism for Savannah... You made it seem as if having a choral society in Savannah is such a huge deal.. When infact the city of Augusta, Columbia County, and Aiken County all have their own choral society...

what difference does it make how long it lasts or how many people attend? I'm sure you're gonna day Augusta's is bigger and better ... you always do. It's sad -- embarrassing really -- how you just will not shut up about Augusta.

And Scientology is NOT a church ... it is a CULT! There's nothing to brag about having that in Augusta. It just means there's some really shallow, pathetic, gullible people living there.

PS -- Hilton is about to build a new 500 room convention hotel on Hutichinson Island in Savannah but you'd find a way to one-up that too ... with news of a new Motel 6 on Gordon Highway.
