My family and I are moving to Alphararetta in July. My soon will be starting kindergarten in the fall. I have heard that crabapple crossing is a good school. Is there anyone out there who knows if he will enjoy it or would you suggest another elementary school in Alpharetta?

I love Alpharetta. Sure it's kind of plastic and not really urban, but it's attractive, well manicured, high income and has wondeful stores and restaurants. The schools are very good too. I don't know too much about Crabapple Crossing, but chances are it's a good school. You don't have to worry about finding a school in a nice area of Alpharetta because pretty much every area of the city is nice. Listen to me gushing about Alpharetta, granted it's not perfect, but no place is; I just really like Alpharetta

You have chosen to live in suburban paridise. The schools are some of the highest ranked in the state. The homes are big and pricey and they hold their property values. Alpharetta is home to professionals, executives, and celebrities like Whitney Houston. The Country Club of the South is the city's most exclusive address and the public high school that serves the community is the second best in the state. But while Alpharetta might be the haven for the wealthy elite I would not send my kids to public school there. I live in a prestigious community in a different area of town which boasts excellent public schools as well. But, the fact is that Georgia's public school system ranks FIFTY in the country. I would say that any public school is not going to compare then to top schools in states like California and Connecticut. If you are trying to send your child to a school like UGA then public schooling is not a bad idea. Just about every Metro Atlanta school in the suburbs sends more kids to UGA than anywhere else ,so the school then doesnt really matter all that much.

But if your are shooting for some of the more prestigious schools in the Northeast then private school would be your best option in order to increase the chances of your child being able to compete with kids from accross the country. The best private schools are Westminster, Pace, Lovett, and Woodward. Woodward has a Lower School Campus in Duluth about 5 minutes east of Alpharetta. The best school, however, is The Wstminster Schools located in Buckhead about 25 minutes south of Alpharetta. The tuition is pricey and the commute in the mornings can be painful but its well worth it. Westminster sends more kids to Ivy Leauge schools than any other school in the state.
