As with most other benefit programs, there is already a work-requirement to receive food stamps. If you are not working, training for work, or actively looking for work after three months, bye-bye benefits.
Considering that many of the jobs that have been displaced by robots or electronics will never come back and there is little likely hood that other uses for the displaced workers will develop we should be thinking about the long term support of the unemployable. Some way of providing enough money so they can become active participants in a society where there is very little work to be done by humans.
Being able to breed should not be the criteria for receiving aid. I am not fond of government programs, but I do recognize that once in a while a little help may be necessary.
It's food. The U.S. is a society last I checked. If we want to be a good society, we feed our people, no questions asked. That being said, if you want it to be cheaper then estabilish govt. run food pantries, but it's highly unlikely that our govt. can run something like that efficiently.
Generally [able-bodied adults] between 18 and 50 who do not have any dependent children can get SNAP benefits only for 3 months in a 36-month period if they do not work or participate in a workfare or employment and training program other than job search. This requirement is waived in some locations.
With some exceptions, able-bodied adults between 16 and 60 must register for work, accept suitable employment, and take part in an employment and training program to which they are referred by the local office. Failure to comply with these requirements can result in disqualification from the Program.
Anyone who is TRULY worthy of food stamps should receive them. Why should being an unemployed single person rule you out? Are we less worthy because we are single? Single people pay taxes, pay for unemployement when they are working. Single should have NOTHING to do with it at all! NOW... drug addicts and woman who have children so the government will pay them should be CUT OFF AT SOME POINT! Get a job and earn the right to receive help when it is truly needed! Cut out the slackers not the single people!
