In some cases, people who commit domestic violence in adulthood have witnessed such violence as children but that's not always the case. What leads some children to carry out similar behavior in adulthood while other children do not?

My guess is they realise that violence is wrong and often the have witnessed others in society. Many times its used as a excuse ;IMO.

Is this an extension of environment v. nature discussion? Is a person predisposed to acts of violence or do they become that way after exposure.....

The domestic violence is like a cancer. It must be eradicated.

I would agree that it can be seen as a nature vs. nurture comment. If a child grows up seeing domestic violence often they may be more inclined to use that as a way to handle problems (anger, disagreements, etc). If a child witnesses domestic violence only a few times and are then taken out of that enviornment maybe they would be less likely to continue the cycle, especially if they then see more healthy ways to handle situations.

It would be great if domestic violence could be eradicated. Whether it's nature or nurture, it would be pretty difficult to do that. Suggestions anyone?

No good reason to hit a woman, at least none that I can think of. Momma taught me better.

And no good reason to abuse a husband; that happens too.

Its the total environment ImO. Outside forces such as what they see and observe from TV to friends;strangers effects now they see the world. Others enter the real world after being a child who got what they wanted with no need to relate to others. Its just the preception of now to get along in the world and get waht you want.
