I have mixed emotions about the program. I mean here I am going to school full time and working 35+ hours a week on top of school at a convenience store to put myself through grad school. I can understand some people need it, but time and time again, here in NY I see people come in buy a crap load of junk food, then use their cash to buy smokes and lotto tickets. I find that to be a kick in the face, here I am standing 9 hours working then going to class so I can pay for school, food and rent.. and this person with this "debit card" comes in buys a bunch of junk food, doesn't work mind you, then spends their "cash benefits" part of that program on lotto and smokes.

Cash benefits, let me explain, some people only get food stamps on the card some get food stamps + cash that you can withdraw at an atm. In some cases people DO need food stamps but from what I see, it seems to be highly abused.
