The Greensboro Coliseum Complex, which is already one of the largest complexes of is kind in the country is expanding again with a new indoor events space adjacent to the White Oak Amphitheater.

In addition construction is on going with the expansion of the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

What the coliseum now calls the White Oak Event Space will be an adjacent 20,000-square-foot multipurpose indoor venue for live music and other events.

The White Oak Event Space will join a complex that includes the coliseum’s 22,000-seat arena, 5,000-capacity Special Events Center mini arena, the 7,000-capacity amphitheater, 300-seat Odeon Theatre, ACC Hall of Champions, The Terrace banquet room, the Greensboro Aquatic Center and The Fieldhouse, where the Greensboro Swarm, affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets plays.

Live Nation is partnering with the project which also brings music events downtown.

That's cool, but it's still big. 2,300 capacity is more than the Fillmore in Charlotte. Greensboro needs a 1,000 cap room and a 200 cap room.

I think the Coliseum complex is good for most of the larger venues and you can put some of the smaller venues downtown.

Yeah. It would be absurd for the coliseum to open a 200 cap venue, haha. But someone needs to do it. I'm excited for this news, but the music scene would benefit more from smaller rooms.

Agree 100% with this. This is needed but we could certainly use more Cat’s Cradle or Motorco style places here. Blind Tiger has potential but in my opinion, squanders it.

Blind Tiger does pull in some cool acts though. I like to think of that end of Spring Garden Street as Greensboro's second downtown. It is UNCG's college strip but I sware its like South Elm Street on a Friday or Saturday night. I always joke about the name of that restaurant/bar called Mother Tuckers. Lol I have a nickname for it.
