I moved to Charlotte 3 years ago from So Cal and just received an email from one of my friends that her husband has an opportunity to transfer with his company to Jamestown. They are flying in for a weekend in Dec to see the area. Unfortunately I don't know anything about the area. I am helping her research and of course sent her the link to City Data.
She has 2 grade school children so a good school system is her number one priority. I did search some threads here and someone had posted an NC school report card for the area which I passed on to her.
My thought was a 30 mile radius from Jamestown (already passed on the Jamestown website). Of course I am reading that Jamestown is very nice. So toss in some surrounding cities/areas that you think she may want to look at. What's the traffic like etc?
I know a number of people who live in Jamestown, and I used to work very near there. Really nice area, smack dab in between Greensboro and High Point, and a short drive to Winston-Salem. So you can take advantage of all these 3 cities have to offer. Sorry, I don't know much about the schools there, but I've never heard anything bad about them.
edit to add: I forgot to mention one of the best things about Jamestown is City Lake Park, one of the best public parks in the state. Swimming pool with water slides, boat rides, ducks, mini-golf, mini-train rides, merry-go-round, swings...it's a great place!

Great! Thanks so much, I'll pass the info on to my friend.
Former Jamestown resident here. I used to commute from Jamestown to Burlington and back everyday, then from Jamestown to Charlotte and back everyday. Never a problem, so maybe that'll answer your traffic concerns. There's nothing bad I can think of about the Jamestown area. Nice homes, nice town, close to lots of things, with the easy access to all of the Piedmont Triad area.
I live right on the border of Jamestown & High Point (next door neighbor is Jamestown, I'm High Point). I think Jamestown is great. It's a small town with not a whole lot in in besides a few little shops, grocery store. City Lake park is great, I take my 3 year old there regularly. They have great seasonal activities like Trunk or Treat and holiday parades and a yearly carnival. Everything else you'd want is very qucik and easy to get to with 10-15 minutes, even Winston-Salem is only 30 minutes away (I commute it daily). There is no traffic of any significance. That being said... schools may be a big issue depending on exactly where you live. I love my house and neighbors, but I'll be moving soon because I refuse to send my daughter to the elementary school she would be going to. The middle and high school seem fine though. Just do your research on the schools before choosing a home.
