To paraphrase Kennedy, "Ask not what your church can do for you; ask what you can do for your church." As it turned out, I have a lot of skills that our church can use, and I realized that this was where God wanted me to be. The rewards have been beyond our dreams! Something to consider.....
Yes, thank you, and I hope that my previous post demonstrates that I *do* consider this, given my attempts to offer my skills and time. The expository portion of my post was not meant to complain, but rather to explain why we are still looking for a home church after 6 years in Greenville co.
Personally, I think it's perfectly reasonable to be discerning about choosing a church, especially because I am responsible for the spiritual growth of 2 children. I am ready to be used however God sees fit, and I am willing to accept some things that aren't my ideal. But as I said, there are just a few non-negotiable things I need to feel comfortable in a church. Given the proliferation of churches here, I should think that's an attainable goal.
Also, congratulations on finding your home church.
Have you tried Rocky Creek Baptist on Woodruff near Butler Road?
Yes, we have, and it had so many great things going for it: a great children's ministry, gorgeous sanctuary, age-diverse congregation, and a nice " traditional" feeling without being too stuffy. There was a wonderful, friendly lady who greeted us when we arrived, took time to show us all around the church, and sat with us during the service. She impressed me so much. Our neighbors go to this church, and they are nice people, so we expected to like it, and we did.
Unfortunately, the sermon (the most important part, IMO) was the reason we have decided not to go back. Without going into specifics, I left feeling disappointed and slightly offended. It was such a shame.

In any case, thank you for the suggestion.
Truth be told, the gospel can and is "offensive" at times. It is also glorious and liberating, that's the wonderful paradox of Christianity.
I'm afraid the reason I was offended had nothing to do with the gospel. The gospel is the story of Christ, and I find nothing offensive in that.
Hey Becca7768 - have you tried Heritage Bible Church (www.heritagebiblechurch.org)? It's in Greer. My wife and I have been there since 2002 and we love it.
In fact if you come this coming Sunday then stop by one of the visitor welcome centers and you can meet me (my wife and I are working a visitor welcome center this coming Sunday).

Is Christian Heritage (the church you recently in a earlier portion of this thread) now called Resurrection Church? I followed the link that your provided originally and it was for something else now. When I googled, the site for Resurrection Church came up. Just wondering as my husband and I may be on the hunt for a new church soon and Resurrection seemed to fit what my husband is looking for in particular.

I have seen many people recommending your church, so I know it must be a welcoming place. I'm not sure it would work for our purposes, only because the hubs doesn't get out of work until after 6pm. But I will definitely keep it in mind. Thanks for the suggestion, Allen!

You're welcome! Like others said, no church is perfect. Full of sinners saved by grace and striving to be more like Christ.
They do verse-by-verse preaching out of the Bible and they also have community groups, though they call them small groups, which you don't have to jump through any hoops to join.
